Last updated: 14 Jun 2017 Topics: Safe recruitment Involving children and young people

This webinar, held in May 2017, looks at the issues arising when a young person makes the move from participant to undertaking a formal role such as coaching, officiating or volunteering.

We discuss the safeguarding implications involved when young people take on a formal role, the changes in behaviour and relationships that might occur and the level of safeguarding awareness young leaders need to fulfil their new role.

Note: Slide 12 mentions that current legislation protecting children (aged 16 and 17) from those in a position of trust does not include sports coaches or similar roles. Since this webinar, the government has announced that this law is being extended to include people in this role.
