This simple-to-use checklist has been developed to support organisations using external providers to offer sport and physical activity delivery for children and young people. This checklist does not include the additional safeguarding considerations required for overnight stays.
It can be used to clarify safeguarding arrangements and help ensure that young participants are safe and looked after while involved in these activities.

Summary
Challenges can arise when two or more partners are involved in arranging and delivering activity. Children can be put at risk or harmed, either because adequate safeguards are not in place or because partners are unclear about their respective responsibilities.
Everyone involved should be confident that all appropriate steps have been taken to safeguard the children involved.
Remember: keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility.
How to use the check and challenge tool
This resource helps all partners understand and address key aspects of safeguarding before the activity begins. Go through this tool with your delivery provider to clarify and answer each of the questions and provide any support that might be needed to put safeguards in place.
In the ‘Person(s) responsible’ column, include name and organisation to avoid misunderstanding.
