Safeguarding policy statement

Last updated: 09 Jan 2025 Topics: Safeguarding standards

A policy statement makes it clear to staff, parents and children what you and your organisation will do to keep children safe.

Below we have provided a sample policy statement, which is an example you can use as a basis for your own policy statement. We have also provided a template, which you are free to use and adapt for your own organisation.

What goes in a safeguarding policy statement?

The document begins with a short statement, explaining that you acknowledges your duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, and that you want all children to have a positive and enjoyable experience, protected from abuse.

Then there is a list of commitments, explaining what you will do, for example, making sure that children, young people and their parents know where to go for help if they have a concern.

This is followed by information on monitoring the policy - how will you make sure it stays up to date and how often will you refresh it.

And finally, contact details for the safeguarding leads in your club or organisation.

The downloads below will give you the full details to create a safeguarding policy statement tailored to your organisation.
